Ammolite


This colorful, rare gemstone comes from the fossil shells of prehistoric ammonites. Sometimes there are found whole shells composed of ammolite.

  1. Lovely. This is closely related to "lumachella" (aka "lumachel" or "fire marble"), which is a whole rock largely composed of ammolite or similar fossil shells. Examples: here and here
